Cycle to work - today and often

Deb Foskey, Greens MLA, today congratulated the organisers of Cycle to Work and said that cycling is a realistic option for many Canberra commuters.

"It makes sense for people to use Canberra's excellent cycling paths and on-road networks to ride to work, when this is a physically realistic option for them," said Deb Foskey.

"Cycling is becoming increasingly attractive to people who want to keep fit and do their bit for the planet at the same time."

"Parking difficulties, peak hour traffic and inadequate bus services make riding speedier and hassle-free by comparison."

"To make it easier for people to ride, every workplace should have adequate secure bike parking facilities and showers."

"The government should maintain its commitment to building on and off road bike paths and extend bus bike racks to all buses."

"I rode today to show my support for all the cycling advocates; in the ACT, Pedal Power works hard for better cycling infrastructure and we all benefit."

"I am a cycling addict; although everyone passes me, I ride whenever I can, including to the Assembly at least once a week."

"I arrive with a clear head, a good dose of vitamin D from the sunshine, and usually have an interesting encounter on the way."

"Any time we leave the car at home is good for the planet; and cycling provides the added benefit of much needed exercise in the sedentary lives many of us have," said Dr Foskey.
