Why no airport at the forum

ACT Greens MLA Deb Foskey has called for a more comprehensive examination of the implications of the Airport’s future plans.

“Working with community group Curfew4Canberra, I held a Forum on the Airport’s plans last week” Dr Foskey said today.

“In the context of concerns regarding greenhouse gas emissions, planning and noise, we decided that the dialogue between constituents and MPs was paramount.”

“This forum was organised to give our federal and local political representatives a chance to make their position clear, and hear from constituents.”

“Unfortunately no Federal MP or Liberal MLA could make the time to talk to the meeting.”

“The Canberra Airport’s views are well known. It has produced its own draft master plan, organised its own public meetings, paid for its own expensive advertisements, and done its own political lobbying.”

“In addressing community concerns, the Airport group seems to be focussing too much on the Tralee development rather than the bigger picture.”

“I would be keen to support a more detailed debate on the Airport Master Plan and its greenhouse gas emissions, planning, land use and environmental implications further down the track.”

“That would hopefully include speakers from the Airport, others with a long term and sustainable vision for Canberra, and a well informed audience” Dr Foskey said.
