Action for Burma
ACT Greens MLA Deb Foskey is addressing the protest at the Burmese Embassy, Arkana St Yarralumla, at 12:30 today.
“I will be at the Burmese Embassy today to express my compassion and support for Canberra friends who are worried sick about their family and friends in Burma” Dr Foskey said today.
“It is a tragedy that the self serving nature of the Burmese Military regime has meant that that desperately needed aid and support is stopped at the border.”
“We can also see that the shortage of infrastructure, the inadequate organising capacity and the lack of trust that this regime has engendered is compounding the terrible consequences of this cataclysmic cyclone.”
“It is time that the Australian Government stopped pussyfooting around the Burmese Junta and spearheaded an international effort to restore democracy and human rights in Burma, as they are the basis of an effective response to environmental and social disasters such as this one.”
“I urge Canberra people to open their hearts to our Burmese friends and donate or help in any way they can” Dr Foskey said.
